From the window looking east

Distant mist
has come to rest
upon the hillside
beyond the house
where a man sits
on stand-by, lamp-lit
and oblivious to the
distant mist.
Between us
light rain falls vertical
like static
against dark trees
whose names
I used to know.

Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas grace the table
in palest green
and Polaroid blue
cut from the bush in the rain
to brighten
a long-shut room.
