Mucking out
She’s passionate about horses, spent her
teenage years mucking around the stables
on a friend’s farm
Now living in the city with a pinto sized
back garden she changes the straw weekly
for her daughter’s guinea pigs
As close as she’s gonna get to mucking out
They’re her shortened passion. Odds-on she’ll
still be looking after them when Edie’s left home
Ruth Arnison lives in Dunedin, and works in the Student Office at Bayfield High School. Her poems have appeared in various national and international magazines including Takahe, SOR, Bravado, Cadenza, Obsessed with Pipework, and Iota.
