Amanda Lucas

Amy

I never did love you as I loved
the pretty girls sing and swoon

on the radio. What she does
best is what she does: make-up

lines and shoot-up in the little
pretty veins between her toes.

She wears soft pink ballet shoes
and her big glass-kept eyes shine

from the stage, her pupils swelling
to the song she likes best. Always Amy

has something to fall back on -
a lover or a father - something to

think about, as I read your letter over
to make it say what it never did.
